FireKem FP-900® for the Fire Protection of Concrete Structures
A1 non-combustible high-performance and multi-purpose fire protection board for domestic, commercial and industrial applications
Kemwell FireKem FP-900® is an easy to install, clean and lightweight, non-combustible calcium silicate fire protection building board. It has multi-purpose applications and is commonly used for commercial and industrial building projects.
As a versatile A1 non-combustible rated high-performance board, it is perfect for internal partitions, walls, roofs, floors and ceilings, and is particularly suited for drywall construction applications where moisture resistance is also required.
The inherent alkalinity of the board makes it anti-bacterial, meaning it is suitable for use in conditions where hygiene is of concern.
It provides superior fire resistance performance and excellent dimensional stability under heat and severe moisture environments making it an ideal choice for a variety of projects.

FIRE PROTECTION TO CONCRETE STRUCTURES
Concrete structures provide a good level of fire resistance performance and are proven to have a high degree of reliability in fire safety. However inferior construction such as insufficient concrete cover to steel reinforcement is detrimental to the fire resistance performance of a concrete building structure. Refurbishment or conversion of an existing concrete building to another usage may require higher fire resistance to satisfy its new designated function for a period of time in the event of a fire so as to comply with building regulations.
An appropriate fire resistance upgrade for the concrete structure can be required to maintain fire safety for the building and its occupants.
Kemwell PFP offers sophisticated solutions for fire resistance upgrade and protection of various concrete or concrete steel composite structural elements in compliance with fire code BS 476: Part 21, and protection to concrete tunnel structures against RWS fire (Rijkswaterstaat) and Eurocode hydrocarbon fire by using FireKem FP-900® eco-friendly fire protection calcium silicate matrix board. Installation of FireKem FP-900® fire resistance upgrade/protection systems is fast, simple, neat and economical. It generates minimal noise and dust nuisance that minimises disturbance to the job site and surroundings.
By applying FireKem FP-900® full-scale loadbearing fire tests on reinforced concrete structures, along with a full engineering appraisal of application performed by Warringtonfire, a world-class independent fire testing consultant.
FireKem FP-900® systems have been proven to effectively protect all types of concrete structures and also feature technical merits, easy installation and cost savings. The protected column, beam and floor structures effectively maintain their loadbearing fire resistance capacity in terms of both structural safety criteria which do not exceed “maximum allowable deflection” and “limit of the rate of deflection” in compliance with BS 476: Part 21. Essentially, strengthens the heat “insulation” performance of floor and wall structures that form fire compartmentation in buildings to control the spread of fire.
FireKem FP-900® has superior fire resistance performance and the boards are approved for up to 240 minutes fire resistance according to BS 476: Part 22: 1987 depending on application.
FireKem FP-900® has excellent dimensional stability under elevated temperatures and in severe moisture environments.
FireKem FP-900® will not deteriorate when used in damp or humid conditions and will not encourage mould growth. The boards are also rot proof.
Performance characteristics are not degraded by age or moisture. Untreated surfaces will absorb water, which can cause some loss of strength, but full strength is regained after drying.
FireKem FP-900® is a chemically inert calcium silicate board, unaffected by contact with most chemicals and resistant to dilute acids and alkalis.
FireKem FP-900® provides good acoustic reduction performance of between 26-49dB. It also provides thermal conductivity (approximately) at 20°C of 0.17 W/mK.
No special equipment is required for cutting or drilling of FireKem FP-900® boards. It is recommended that cutting of the boards is carried out in well-ventilated situations, or the wearing of suitable dust masks to reduce the hazard of nuisance dust production, during the cutting or drilling process.
Boards may be flat head nailed or pilot drilled, then screwed.
FireKem FP-900® has a smooth surface but due to their high suction should be first sealed prior to applying paints, plasters, or wallpapers.
FireKem FP-900® is a lightweight but strong building board. System performance is unaffected by the hazards and condition of its working environment. It does not rot.
FireKem FP-900® boards remain unaffected by rodent, termite and insect attack.
